SEN CAL KAPIMI EPISODE 31 SUMMARY
Oh, well. . .what can I say? This is the Valentine’s Day special. The writers apparently believe that by prolonging Serkan’s lost memory through 3 or 4 episodes, the viewers will rejoice with excitement when Serkan remembers Eda and their love, but honestly, it’s tiring. Eda’s false enthusiasm for her fake engagement to Deniz is annoying because she thinks it will affect Serkan in some profound way. So far, he doesn’t seem to care.
At the end of Episode 30, Eda announced that Deniz had proposed, she accepted and they would get married. Selin was the most enthusiastic of the presentation guests that evening. Ceren was devastated, and everyone else was dumbfounded. The next morning Ayfer catches Eda and Melo before they can leave for the office. She is confused and upset, but Eda explains that the engagement is a “love game,” the last chance she has to make Serkan remember. Aydan is on the phone with Serkan expressing her shock and disappointment with Serkan that he could allow this to happen. Serkan tells her not to meddle or interfere.
Deniz drives Melo and Eda to work. On the way, Melo calls Ceren and asks if she has taken her medicine. Melo knows that Ceren loves Deniz and that she has had a bad reaction to Eda’s surprise engagement. Melo also knows that Ceren has depression issues for which she must take medicine. Ceren is cool to Melo, telling her she’s working as usual and she’s taken her medicine, but that’s not true.
Eda is afraid she will say something that will ruin the game and she asks Melo to warn her if she starts to go astray. Melo says she will sneeze and that will be a warning for Eda. Eda is very excited to start the “game” with Serkan. She and Deniz arrive at the office just as Serkan and Selin also arrive. A barrage of reporters question Eda about her shocking news and how her great love for Serkan could end so abruptly. She says Serkan should answer the question, and he says things don’t always last. The whole scene is stupid.
In the coffee room of the office, Melo explains to Ceren that Eda is playing a game because she’s jealous, but Ceren is not happy. She complains that everything and everyone revolve around Eda and no one pays any attention to her. Melo asks Ceren again if she’s taken her medicine and Ceren lies. Selin overhears their conversation and realizes that Eda’s engagement is a fake.
In the office, Eda acts all smiley and happy, demanding congratulations from Serkan. Another silly scene. Selin enters and offers her congratulations, and Eda turns snarky and snide with her. She demands that Selin read aloud the news report about her engagement and then gleefully says the writer recognizes “true” love.
Engin helps Piril down the stairs, believing that he must protect his pregnant wife. Erdem approaches and the scene becomes ridiculous when he and Engin pretend crying. Piril finally walks away. Ricidulous, silly scene.
Red balls and red balloons are brought into the office, a distraction for Eda and Serkan, and apparently sent by Deniz. Eda makes a big deal of the gesture, taunting Serkan with the balloons. Another silly scene. Engin enters to give Serkan some paperwork, he admires the balloons, announces that he and Piril will go to the doctor, and finally, he says he wants everyone to get together for a celebratory meal at one of Chef Alex’s restaurants.
Eda leaves Serkan in the office with a red heart balloon and joins Melo and Ceren in the coffee room where she tells them she thinks the game is working. She is completely oblivious to Ceren.
Erdem and Leyla meet in a café to figure out how to find someone with whom to share Valentine’s Day. They suggest people who work at the office. The man Erdem suggests for Leyla has bad breathe; the woman Leyla suggests for Erdem has big feet. Neither of the two accept Erdem and Leyla’s invitations.
Engin and Piril have returned from the doctor’s appointment and look at the sonogram. Engin wants to know the gender but Piril tells him it’s too early, that they should spend these early months enjoying themselves. Engin, however, is eagerly immersed in the idea of parenthood and wants to know everything about the pregnancy. Finally, Piril, who is feeling that her identity as a woman is lost, suggests they celebrate Valentine’s Day at a favorite restaurant.
Eda takes Sirius to Deniz’s shop where she meets Emir, a photographer friend of Deniz’s. He takes bunches of pictures of Deniz, Eda and Sirius while Selin watches secretly from her car. Eventually, Selin leaves and Serkan arrives. He first went to Ayfer’s house to get the dog, but Melo says Eda took Sirius to Deniz’s shop. Deniz invites Serkan in for coffee and they have a very pointed conversation about “broken people” and Deniz says he can love broken people, all the while looking at Eda. He tells Serkan that the starfish he picks up is one that he and Eda found many years earlier, and that Eda loves the sea. Eda is a bit anxious because she thinks Deniz is exaggerating dangerously, but Deniz says if the game will work, they have to have had a serious relationship in the past for Serkan to believe they will get married. Eda says okay if Deniz will “give” her Serkan.
Aydan and Seyfi get drunk on chocolate candy. Aydan is feeling sorry for herself now that Serkan has lost Eda and Alex has declared his love for Afyer. Meanwhile, Ayfer is busy at Alex’s restaurant. She cuts her finger, Alex coddles her and soon returns with tickets for a two day vacation.
After coffee and conversation at Deniz’s shop, Serkan says he must go. Eda says she will leave, too, and Serkan offers her a ride. When they arrive at Ayfer’s house, Serkan tells Eda that she can keep Sirius and he will see the dog on weekends. He also asks Eda if she’s happy. She tells him that he, she and Sirius were once a family, and then he wants to know if he destroyed that love. She says yes, but before the conversation can go further, they hear Aydan yelling in the background. They go into the house to find Aydan drunkenly accusing Ayfer of not believing in Eda and Serkan’s great love. Melo and Seyfi are also witnesses to this bizarre behavior. When Aydan sees Eda and Serkan together, she thinks they have solved the problem, but Serkan says no, they are not together. Serkan, Ayfan and Seyfi leave. Another pointless, silly scene.
Ferit finds Ceren by the Bosphorus that night and tries to make amends but Ceren refuses his attention. He wants them to be civil to each other, especially at work, but Ceren says she doesn’t want to be friends or friendly. She is in an evil mood.
The next morning at the office Ferit brings Ceren two little cactus plants. When she asks why, he says the plants look like them with thorns and flowers. She tells Ferit to leave her alone; he says that she should not pursue something that will not work and will never make her happy. Ceren is angry with Ferit for telling her she can’t be with Deniz and be happy. When she sees Melo, she tells her that she would have a chance with Deniz if Eda wasn’t in the way. She will talk to Eda and explain, but Melo says she can’t do it right now, that the Deniz/Eda romance is just a game to make Serkan jealous. Neither of them know that Selin, hidden by a panel, has taped their conversation.
In the office Serkan asks Eda a few questions: is she happy; why she never told the “other Serkan” about her long friendship with Deniz; which love was better, Deniz’s or Serkan’s. Eda refuses to answer.
When Melo and Ceren leave to get coats for an outside walk, Eda approaches and notices that Ceren doesn’t look well. Melo makes an excuse that Ceren is mad at Ferit. Eda offers to talk with Ceren, but Melo says she shouldn’t talk with her right now. Ceren goes home and decides to do something drastic with her hair. Later, after another rejection by Ceren, Ferit asks Melo what is wrong with Ceren. Melo tells him that Ceren had a hard life growing up and she’s been taking medication since she was twenty. Melo also says the medicine helps Ceren stay balanced and happy, but Ferit thinks maybe she isn’t taking the medicine and they need to help her.
Eda goes into the office followed by Selin and Serkan. Selin, now aware of Eda’s “love game,” tells Eda to call Deniz and put him on speaker phone. She then invites Deniz and Eda to the yacht for a dinner with her and Serkan. Serkan isn’t sure about this invitation, but Selin insists it’s necessary if they are going to work together. Besides she wants to celebrate Valentine’s Day and Eda’s forthcoming marriage.
Engin has a Valentine’s Day surprise for Piril, and she’s excited until she sees the gift, a little Teddy Bear. Engin reiterates all the things he’s done to make her a happy mother and help her have a healthy baby, but behind the smile, Piril is really disappointed. Engin doesn’t seem interested in romance anymore.
Chef Alex makes a brief stop at Ayfer’s on his way to buy honey for the restaurant. Ayfer offers to go with him, but he says he must go alone. The next day he will come to get her for their trip.
That evening Melo and Ceren call Deniz at the same time and all three are in a conversation. Melo tells Deniz that she has a plan to keep Selin from getting to the dinner date on the yacht and she wants Deniz to create some excuse not to go. Deniz is not happy. Later, Melo locks Selin in the powder room at the company and Deniz tells Eda that he will be late for the dinner. Eda and Serkan are alone on the boat. Eda keeps asking how he cannot remember her, but Serkan’s answer is the same: he doesn’t choose what to remember. They talk about the stars and Serkan quotes part of a poem that he and Eda learned together but he doesn’t remember when or where he learned it.
Ceren goes to Deniz’s shop since she knows he will not be with Eda. She wants to talk, but Deniz knows what she wants to hear and he can’t say it. She tells him she’s only happy and safe with him, but he tells her she has other problems. Finally, acting on her feelings, she kisses him. Deniz is annoyed and tells her to leave. While Ceren is with Deniz, Ferit goes through her house looking for her medicine. He finds the photos that she has torn and cut up, especially the one where she cut out Eda’s picture.
Melo has had to entertain Erdem to keep him from going to the office and discovering Selin locked up. She plies him with food until even that can’t keep Erdem satisfied. Finally, they leave the restaurant and just as they approach the office, Melo sees Selin come out and get in her car. She can’t figure out how Selin was able to escape.
Before Eda leaves the yacht, Serkan gives Eda her flower ring on a chain. He tells her he can’t give her the year back but he wants her to have the ring. She can take it or leave it, however she feels about it. She takes the ring. Serkan helps her off the boat and they stand close to each other just as Selin arrives to see them.
Engin and Piril go for a walk after looking at a pregnancy/childbirth documentary. Piril wants something special for Valentine’s but the only thing on Engin’s mind appears to be taking care of her. He makes her sit while he goes to get water because he wants her to stay hydrated. She fusses and stews, saying she would like flowers at least. When he comes back, he tells her to guess what he is hiding behind his back, and, of course, she guesses water or nuts or fruit or soup or bouillon or vitamins or a Teddy Bear, but when he shows her, it’s a gorgeous, huge solitaire on a chain. He tells her how much he loves her as she breaks into tears.
Aydan and Seyfi eat popcorn and watch a soccer match. Aydan can’t believe that her newfound freedom has been eclipsed by all the troubles. Seyfi tells Aydan she should go to the hairdressers the next day.
When Eda leaves the yacht and Selin goes home, Serkan remains and reflects on some of the recent moments when he and Eda have been alone. Apparently, these little episodes have fostered some kind of feeling, maybe a familiarity that he can’t quite understand or forget.
Ayfer and Aydan are at the hairdressers where two women gossip about Chef Alex. One of the women says she had a brief romance with him, but he left her after a few dates. The other woman says Alex is a womanizer. Ayfer is listening to this and becoming unsure about Alex and the trip they will take. She expects him to ditch her just as he did the other woman. For some reason, the viewer has the idea that Aydan put the women up to this deceit to upset Ayfer and make her unsure about Alex.
While Ayfer is fostering doubts about Alex’s sincerity as she waits for him, someone knocks on the door. It’s Alex who has come to take Ayfer on their romantic vacation. She greets him with a big hug.
Eda and Melo are having coffee and talking about the evening’s events. Deniz joins them for a minute to tell Eda he has a surprise for her. At the same time, Erdem and Leyla bemoan their Valentine’s Day failures and evening alone before joining the group at the restaurant to celebrate Piril’s pregnancy. They give Piril their gifts, followed by Eda presenting hers, and Piril gets very emotional. Ceren arrives and everyone compliments her hideous pink hair.
Farouk arrives unexpectedly and tells Eda and Serkan he is eagerly awaiting their wedding. When he asks Serkan when the wedding will be, Serkan says, “Never. I will marry Selin soon.” Farouk is surprised at the blunt, unexpected announcement. Eda is devastated.
After all of the gifts are given, Deniz arrives and makes an announcement. He has brought a special gift for his beloved. Eda Is surprised even though Deniz told her to expect it. He gives her the box and when she opens it, she is baffled. She looks at Deniz questioningly because this goes beyond her love game. She finds a wedding invitation announcing their marriage to take place on April 20th. Deniz tells her if that date is too early or too late, she can change it to suit herself. Deniz is pleased with his surprise, but Eda is unable to absorb what he has done.
Serkan, too, seems uncertain about this unexpected gesture, but Selin is pleased. Her cat-smile indicates she had something to do with Deniz’s decision to leap ahead.
A flashback shows Selin banging on the locked door in the office and the sounds of someone approaching. When the door is unlocked, she sees Deniz standing there. When she asks him what he’s doing there, he says he thinks they can both help each other. Apparently, Deniz wants Eda for himself and he thinks Selin can help him. Selin wants Serkan for herself and she thinks Deniz will be helpful.
Eda is confounded; what should she do? She can’t reject the invitation after touting how true her love for Deniz is, and she doesn’t know what Serkan may think about this surprise. Now that she’s in this inexplicable situation, she makes a spontaneous decision. Eda turns to Deniz and declares that there is no reason to wait until April. The wedding can take place on March 20th.
My, my, my. . .has Eda overplayed her hand? How will Eda get out of this? Will Serkan discover the truth about Eda’s relationship with Deniz? Will Ceren do something drastic? Does anyone really care?
