SEN CAL KAPIMI EPISODE 20 SUMMARY
Shock! Eda, still struggling with her anger and frustration at Serkan’s reluctance to admit the truth of their breakup, has just heard Selin enter the house and say “. . .the secret about her parents’ death.” She cannot comprehend what or why Selin would know anything about her family, and even though Serkan has told Selin to leave and he will explain, Eda insists that Selin stay. Selin chooses to leave, saying that she can’t say anything. Serkan tells Eda that eighteen years ago his father gave the construction job to a company that used inferior materials, a fact he didn’t know until just recently. Eda, obviously upset, asks Serkan if that is the reason she was given a scholarship or the reason he became close to her, to soothe his conscience. Serkan says he loves her so much that he didn’t want to cause her this pain; he would rather lose her than subject her to more heartbreak.
Eda leaves Serkan’s house, calls Aydan to ask if Alptekin is at home, and says she is coming to the Bolat estate. Aydan recognizes distress in Eda’s voice and calls Serkan who says he will come. Eda confronts Alptekin, demanding to know why he hid the truth of her parents’ death from her. She demands to know the truth, what happened that day, who was the person responsible? Alptekin says he is very sorry and begs her forgiveness. He gives her a folder of documents, telling her he tried to do everything possible for her but her last name was changed and he couldn’t find her. She accuses him of stealing her life. He answers that Serkan had nothing to do with the accident, that he was a small child when it happened. She demands to know the person directly responsible; Alptekin tells her his name is Kadir Ozturk and he has been punished.
Eda leaves with the folder, but Serkan stops her and tries to explain why he didn’t tell her. He loves her and he didn’t want to upset her. She says she knows he doesn’t bear any guilt in the accident, but she accuses him of lying because he didn’t tell her. She says she can’t be with a person who keeps a secret from her, who doesn’t speak the truth, and whom she cannot believe anymore. Eda leaves Serkan abruptly and goes to her car. She calls Melo and tells her that they all should go away for a few days. Fifi and Ceren are there and they agree to have a girls’ weekend away from everyone, but Eda tells them not to let Ayfer know that she’s upset, just that they want to be away from everyone for awhile.
Aydan finds Serkan sitting remorsefully in his emptied apartment on the estate. He tells her he wants to be alone, but she says to listen to her for just a moment. She believes that Eda needs time to be away from him to think things through. When she has had time to review these startling facts, she will come to him again because she really loves him. Aydan says he must be patient because they are meant to be together. Serkan says he’s afraid she won’t ever believe him again, but Aydan says she will.
Efe Akman calls a Mrs. Semikha, apparently Eda’s grandmother, and apologizes, saying everything went up and down, something he didn’t want to happen, but he will sort it out. He also thanks her for always being supportive of him.
The girls tell Ayfer that they need a change. It has been a difficult year and everyone needs some alone time to make some decisions. Ayfer is sure that something has happened with Serkan, but she accepts that a girls’ getaway will be good for all.
Before he leaves the estate, Serkan confronts his father. He tells Alptekin the best thing he can do is leave the family. After all, the only reason Serkan lived at home was because Alptekin was never there, and someone needed to be with his mother. He says Alptekin has never been a father because he was too obsessed with work.
When Serkan returns to his house, he finds Selin approaching the door. He tells her that she is meddling in affairs that don’t concern her. She says that she was concerned that anything having to do with the company would harm him, and it was her right to know as a partner, but Serkan says it has nothing to do with her. He knows her too well. He is angry and he tells her again that he never loved her, he loves Eda, and he doesn’t want her meddling in his affairs. She needs to stay away. Furthermore, they are not friends, only business partners.
Aydan and Seyfi are at a loss of what to do after Serkan leaves, but before they can talk further, Ayfer appears. As usual, her nosy self intrudes to ask questions about Serkan and Eda. I absolutely despise the woman. With that sickly sweet smile, she approaches Aydan because she thinks she must know every detail of Eda’s life. She brings flower seeds and tells Aydan that Eda and the girls left for a few days, so she wants to know what happened with Serkan. Aydan tells her that Serkan is at his home alone and doesn’t talk with anyone, so Ayfer will have to find out from Eda.
Eda sits alone on a beach and remembers past conversations with her parents. The girls join her and encourage her to talk. Eda says that she grieved a long time for her parents, but she became used to not having them. Now, with this revelation, she feels the grief again, and the estrangement from Serkan feels like she has lost another loved one. No matter the pain and the disappointment, she still feels love for Serkan. Melo says that if there is love, there is forgiveness. Eda says she can’t trust Serkan; she has to protect herself from this love, otherwise, she will dissolve. Now, this time away has allowed her to go forward with a plan. She will return to work with certain conditions she will impose on Serkan.
Alptekin says goodbye to Aydan. Serkan’s accusations about Alptekin’s poor role as husband, parent and business executive have hit home. He admits that he hasn’t been good for his family and it’s best for everyone that he leaves. He says he will stay in a hotel. Aydan is surprised at this decision but recognizes that Alptekin is feeling guilt about his poor choices. At this moment, she’s more concerned with the health and well-being of her son. Serkan is alone in his home. He doesn’t communicate with the company, his friends or his mother. Aydan learns that Seyfi went to his house, but Serkan would not answer the door. She threatens to call, but Seyfi tells her to let him be alone.
At the company, Leyla waters flowers in the rain because Serkan told her to. She is bereft that he hasn’t come to the office in several days, nor has Eda come. Piril gets a call from Aydan and confirms that Serkan isn’t working, but she promises she will let her know when he comes. Selin arrives and questions Piril. She knows that Serkan and Eda aren’t there, but she won’t get involved. She tells Piril that she’s unhappy, and if she’s unhappy, she wants Serkan to be unhappy, too.
Eda calls Leyla and tells her she will come to work; she wants Leyla to call Serkan and tell him that she will be in the office and wants to talk with him. Leyla shares the information that both of them will be at the company later. When Serkan and Eda arrive, Eda takes a folder to Serkan and tells him to sign the document. She says it’s her agreement with conditions and punishments. Serkan doesn’t even read it before he signs his name. He’s willing to do anything to atone for his mistakes and have Eda near him. She says that from now on they are just working colleagues. She tells him to take off his engagement ring and she takes off hers and gives it to him.
Eda speaks with Efe, telling him that she hasn’t forgiven him for his treachery, but she will continue to work with him because she is going to school and needs a salary to pay her tuition and expenses. He says he’s glad she will continue to work because he has to go to Italy to straighten out some problems. He has a client he wants her to meet and work with in his absence. Serkan asks Leyla to keep and eye on Eda and tell him who she sees and with whom she talks.
Unhappy Selin, still smarting from Serkan’s honest confession that he has never loved her, has seen the two engagement rings on Serkan’s desk. She calls her journalist friend and gives her the news: Serkan and Eda have ended their engagement but they are trying to keep it a secret. Of course, the journalist is not supposed to reveal the source of this news. Photographers will be waiting at the company door to snap pictures of Serkan and Eda when they leave.
Piril and Engin find Serkan in a reasonable state of mind, but Engin is shocked when he learns that Serkan signed a contract without even reading it. He had the funniest line in the show: “You don’t even buy toothpaste without reading the contents.”
Nesrin, Ferit’s mother, and Aydan come to the company to talk with Piril about the community charity project. Eda greets them and immediately Nesrin asks Eda to speak with the candidates for scholarships since she was a scholarship student herself. Eda would become the “face” of the education project. Eda agrees to help, and Aydan carries this news to Serkan who says the holding and Art/Life company will undertake the project. There will be a fashion show and a cupcake sale to raise funds for the scholarships. After the general meeting, Serkan asks Eda to stay so they can discuss her idea of a mobile classroom. He uses this opportunity to sit close to her and deftly place her engagement ring back in her jacket pocket. He accidentally touches her and she tells him the punishment is to apologize to the first person he sees. That happens to be Erdem, not Serkan’s favorite person. That’s a cute scene because Erdem hugs Serkan much against Serkan’s will.
Eda calls Kadir Osturk to arrange a meeting. This is the contractor responsible for the wall collapse that killed Eda’s parents. As she leaves the company to meet the man, the photographers and journalist are waiting. Serkan follows her and holds her when she faints. He puts her in the car and tells her he will go to the meeting with her; she has always been by his side, now he will be by hers. Eda tells the man he killed her family and she hopes he never has a day of peace. Her emotions are so raw that she utters negative thoughts that normally she would never have. She almost clings to Serkan when the man leaves because she’s wracked with grief.
Ayfer interviews for the catering job with the community social group, but when told they need at least 600 cupcakes for their sale, she says she can’t do that because she doesn’t have a professional kitchen. Ferit has arrived to greet his mother Nesrin, and he says Ayfer should take the order because he owns hotels that have huge kitchens and staff to make those cupcakes with no problem. He leaves with Ayfer and Fifi to show her the kitchen she can use. On the way, Fifi sees the news of Serkan and Eda’s breakup on social media. In this scene we have learned that Fifi is the daughter of a prominent family of Istanbul and her mother is a member of this social charity group, but she doesn’t approve of the way Fifi dresses.
Eda discovers her engagement ring in her jacket pocket. Selin tells Engin and Piril she will not interfere in the news of Serkan’s broken engagement because he needs to deal with his personal issues himself. She doesn’t admit she had anything to do with making the news known, but she’s determined to be as heartless as she believes Serkan is himself. He hurt her, so she will hurt him.
Aydan is lonely at home, so she sends Seyfi to the hotel to check on Alptekin. He may need something. Seyfi doesn’t want to go, but he does Aydan’s bidding. He sees Alptekin meet a woman, and he’s very upset. Eda is home alone because Ayfer is busy making cupcakes in the hotel kitchen. Serkan is alone looking at photos of Eda on his cell phone. Finally, he goes to Eda’s and calls her from the street. He asks her if she’s okay and if she’d like to take a walk with Sirius. She tells him that he’s violating the contract, but he says it’s okay for him to be concerned about a fellow worker. She doesn’t go out, but she realizes how attached they both are to each other.
The next morning Eda meets Efe as she leaves for the community charity event. He tells her that his client wants to meet her because he has a very big project and he wants to know who he will be working with. He says he can’t go to the charity event now because he has some business to handle with Italy but he will join the group later. Serkan is waiting outside for Eda and offers to drive her to the event.
When they arrive, Eda goes over to Ayfer and the girls who are standing by the cupcake table. The girls have kept Ayfer under surveillance to be sure that Aydan doesn’t come and say something to upset her. Efe arrives to tell Serkan, Engin and Piril that he will be leaving soon for Italy and he won’t come back. When Serkan asks about the shares, Efe says he will keep the shares, but his partner will control them and work with the company. Ceren avoids Ferit because she’s still angry with him for saying that he likes her but he isn’t interested in another relationship at the present. Seyfi avoids Aydan by caring for the designer evening gowns that will be auctioned later in the evening.
Eda gives her speech to 250 potential scholarship students via zoom. Afterward, while Eda looks at a scale model of the school, Serkan walks up to her. Standing close to him, Eda secretly puts the engagement ring back in his pocket, an act that Selin sees from across the room. When the cupcake sale is over, the girls go home to get ready for the evening of modeling designer evening gowns for auction. Eda tells the girls they must be with her when she tells Ayfer about the company’s involvement with her parents’ death, although she knows that Ayfer will probably want to be alone. She hasn’t decided how best to tell Ayfer, but she knows she has to do it. Ceren suggests that she write a letter explaining the accident and Eda agrees to do that.
At the community charity event that evening, Serkan tells Eda he listened to her speech again and wonders if she believes what she said. Of course, Eda responds. Serkan tells her that she believes a person shouldn’t be afraid to make mistakes because mistakes make us stronger. Then couldn’t my mistakes make me stronger/better? “Eda, why are you so cruel to me.” Eda doesn’t answer. Aydan comes up with a new idea for raising money. She will auction the men for a dinner date; Ferit, Efe, Engin and Serkan. None of them want to do it, but Eda uses her “agreement” to force Serkan to participate. After the designer gown modeling event has finished, the lucky lady bidder will go on a dinner date with the winning handsome man. Eda learns that Serkan had the most bids, but she doesn’t know who his dinner date will be. She’s jealous. She approaches Serkan to see if he will tell her anything, but he only hands her a piece of paper. He says the restaurant address is on the paper. He has made the bids to win so he can have dinner with her. She puts the paper in her purse, and Selin observes her doing this. Aydan announces that the models have not arrived, so the girls will have to wear the dresses for the auction, and the modeling event begins. The professional models were never invited because Aydan wanted Eda and the girls to model the gowns.
Selin is the first model to appear. When she returns to the room after her promenade, she finds Eda’s purse and removes the paper Serkan gave Eda with the restaurant address. In its place, she puts a similar paper with a different restaurant location.
Engin tells Serkan there is a problem at a construction site, but Serkan tells him to handle it. Engin can’t believe that Serkan isn’t going to the site himself to correct the problem. He has always undertaken every step of a construction job and dealt with problems that cropped up. He has been the ultimate problem-solver as a matter of pride for his company’s quality control. Now, however, Serkan seems less interested in work and the control of projects; he tells Engin he has invited Eda for dinner. If she comes, he has hopes they will be together; if she doesn’t, he will give up and leave her alone. Eda comes into the room to get her coat and Serkan asks her if she will have dinner with him. She says she doesn’t know.
Aydan tells Seyfi they won’t go home, but rather they will go to see Alptekin in the hotel. Seyfi tries to discourage her, but she’s determined. A disheveled Alptekin is shocked when he opens the door. He does not invite Aydan in but rather insists they go downstairs, but Aydan will not be waylaid. She bursts into the room, sees two plates and two glasses on the table, and starts checking closets. Before leaving, she looks under the bed and sees Esma, Alptekin’s secretary. At home Ayfer finds the letter that Eda has written.
Serkan arrives at the restaurant and waits for Eda. He finds the engagement ring in the pocket of his coat. Eda, meantime, arrives at another restaurant, the name of the one Selin placed in her purse. They wait for each other, Serkan believing that she won’t forgive him, and he has no hope; Eda believing that this is another lie, and she can’t trust him; neither prepared to face the promises they have made to themselves in trying to find a way to be together.
