KURULUS OSMAN EPISODE 40 SUMMARY

At the end of last week’s episode we saw Aya Nickola returning from his unsuccessful attempt at raiding the Kais nomad. Flatius is captured and held in the Kai prison. Targun who was spying for Aya Nickola was expected to poison all the Bey’s at the Toy Council Meeting but instead she betrayed Aya Nickola and gave the poison to Osman. Osman in return for her loyalty rescued her father from his evil clutches. The episode closed with the death and burial of Ertugrul Gazi.

This week we commence the new episode at the grave site of Ertugrul Gazi. Osman greets his father and prays over his grave telling him that he will make the Turks known throughout the world.

Two men meet Osman at the grave site. They tell him that they have come on a pilgrimage from Aleppo to show their respects to Ertugrul. Osman sends them to the Inn in Sogut as his guest to rest from their journey. They are welcomed at the Inn by Idris one of the Bey’s who will be sitting at the Council Meeting. When the men are shown their room their real identity is revealed. They are not Turks but Christians and their words to Osman were lies. As far as anyone knows Idris is a Turk but the truth becomes apparent that he is a Roman. He is told to rescue Flatius from the prison.

Meanwhile, back at the Kai nomad the challenge to become the leader of the Kais is still undecided. Savci, Dundar Bey, Gunduz and Osman are the candidates. Ertugrul Gazi died before he could speak the name of his successor. Jealousy and dominance eats at Savci and Dundar Bey like a disease, even their wives challenge fiercely each other for the right to be the head women of the tribe.

Dundar Bey has paid three Bey’s in gold to vote for him at the meeting. He fully expects to be the next Bey of the Kais. Osman is aware of what he has done but Savci isn’t. Dundar Bey expects Savci to vote for him depending on how the votes go and Savci expects Dundar Bey to vote for him if the vote should go his way.

The Alp who is trusted beyond reproach is Bamsi Bey. Bamsi Bey was given the charge by Ertugrul to protect and care for the holy relics collected by his ancestors. This has been an honour for Bamsi Bey, the location of which is only known to him. The relics are to be delivered to his chosen heir. He picks up Suleyman Shah’s sword to give to the rightful heir.

The Toy Council Meeting is ready to commence. Bamsi Bey is the eldest and leads the meeting in Ertugrul’s absence. He gives the names of Ertugrul’s three sons and Dundar Bey as the candidates they need to vote for. Each candidate has an opportunity to speak at the meeting and give their vote.

Dundar Bey votes for himself. Gunduz votes for Osman and Osman votes for himself. Bamsi Bey also votes for Osman. The other Bey’s have their votes counted. They are even 5 for Dundar Bey and 5 for Osman.

The last vote to be cast comes from Savci who has not been given a single vote. Savci Bey will not vote for Dundar Bey after knowing that he paid the Beys to vote for himself. Even though Savci desperately wants to be the Bey of the Kais he has no choice but to vote. He votes for Osman.

So, the new Kai leader is Osman Bey. It is obvious to Osman that betrayal was afoot with Dundar Bey paying gold for votes , so in Osman’s eyes the election of a true leader has been compromised. He tells the Council that the leader of the Kais should be honest and trustworthy. He swears he will build a State for the Kais and will conquer many cities in their name and he believes that he is the perfect choice to lead the Kais and a worthy heir but the vote has to be an honest vote. He requests they vote once more to make sure that the election is an honest one.

The second vote is unanimous for Osman Bey and Osman can now take the leadership knowing that he won honestly.

Dundar Bey rises to leave the room after his defeat. He is a sore loser. As leader of the Kais Osman releases Dundar Bey from his duty.

Osman then turns to Savci and tells him that he has fought him at every turn. He allowed Sogut to burn. He was against Kuluchaiser Castle being captured and at each battle he has never been there to defend the Kais or to offer Osman any support. Osman punishes him by removing him as leader of the Alps. Savci accepts his punishment and leaves the nomad along with Dundar Bey.

Abdurrahman Gazi walks out onto the steps of the Council tent and addresses the people. He tells them that a Bey has been chosen and it is Ertugrul’s son, Osman Bey.

Bamsi Bey is given a Will written by Ertugrul and given to Abdurrahman Gazi before his death. In this Will, Ertugrul Bey nominates Osman to be the Bey of the Kais. Although this document could have been used instead of a Council vote, Erugrul asked his friend to allow the vote to go ahead to see if the Beys willingly give their vote to Osman. He asked his friend to only use it if it was necessary. Bamsi Bey will place the Will with the other relics held by him.

Selcan Hatun and Bala Hatun are thrilled that Osman is chosen as their Bey but Targun celebrates Osman’s victory differently. She shows Bala that she has her eyes on her husband.

The two men from Aleppo, Petro and Metin arrive at Inegol Castle and present themselves before Aya Nickola. They bring him a message from the Pope asking for Aya Nickola to kill Osman. They the Pope wishes for them to rescue Flatius from the Kais.

Aya Nickola tells them that he will consider the Pope’s wish if they get Flatius out of the nomad prison. Aya Nickola believes that the two men are after a much bigger prize than Osman. He tells Helen that he will find out what it is eventually.

That night there is a great celebration in the Kai nomad. Osman is officially ordained by the tribe as their leader as traditions would have it. The cry is for unity and for a State to be created. Osman rides through the nomad with cheers of “Long Live Osman Bey” ringing in his ears.

Osman is presented with three gifts. One is the Qoran and the other is his father’s sword which was given to him by Suleyman Shah . Osman’s hand tightens on the hilt of the sword feeling the power that surges through him just by its presence. The flag of the Kais is his last gift which he is asked to take with him on his journey to create a State for his people. He addresses the tribe and tells them that they have to have patience and work hard so that they can achieve the dream of becoming a State.

Bala is so proud watching her husband take his rightful place. She joins him in his praise to God.

The Ahis tribe begin to chant their blessings over Osman with prayers that haunt the night air.

Not everyone is happy though with the outcome. Dundar Bey is beside himself with anger over Savci not voting for him. He has been stripped of his command and embarrassed. He swears revenge.

In the quietness of his tent, Osman and Bala celebrate a dream come true for them both. Osman holds Bala in his arms. He tells her that as she is now the wife of the Bey of the Kais, that she will be expected to lead the women in the nomad . He tells her that she will have a huge job in front of her and she also has to control Hazal Hatun (Dundar Bey’s wife) and Lena (Savci’s wife). She tells Osman not to worry about her and that she will ask for help and wisdom from Selcan Hatun.

Targun and her father ask for an audience with Osman. They are ushered into his tent. Bala is there and so is Selcan Hatun. Targun’s father is the Bey of the Kuman Turks and has heard that his daughter is to be married to Osman. Osman does not reject Targun as his wife even when she asks to become a Muslim. He does ask that they discuss the matter further later on.

Bala does not like Targun. As much as she tries she cannot trust her. There is a dislike between the two women. This situation is a delicate one and Osman needs time to decide what to do. Targun tells her father that she is determined to be the wife of Osman Bey and deep down her jealousy towards Bala is beginning to get out of hand.

Meanwhile, Savci has lost the responsibility of leading the Alps. As angry and unhappy as he is, Savci shows joy when he meets his son Bayhoca who has been separated from him for quite some time.

Osman calls for a meeting with his most trusted Alps. He them positions of trust within the tribe. He gives the duty of being the leader of the Alps to Goktug as he has the knowledge of a warrior.

Boran is to become Osman’s right hand man. Boran Alp will go wherever Osman goes and will be the only one to know all his secrets.

Osman has noticed that Dundar Bey and Savci have not joined in on any of the celebrations and stand against him. He orders Boran and Goktug to keep their eyes on both of them.

Osman gives the order for Flatius to be executed the following day. He promises that Aya Nickola will have the same fate. Little does Osman know that at the very same time Flatius breaks out of the prison tent after Idris hides a weapon in his food. Flatius disguises himself as a Turk and escapes his prison.

That evening at Inegol Castle, Aya Nickola and the new messengers from the Pope decide on a way in which they can finish Osman off.

At the end of the day Bamsi Bey tells Osman that he has a secret. This secret he tells him has been under his protection for many years and it is a duty that was given to him by Ertugrul Gazi.

Bamsi Bey tells him that he is the only one who can see the secret. He asks him to come to his cave in the morning and see the holy relics which have been passed from down from one Bey to another throughout the generations.
