KURULUS OSMAN EPISODE 22 SUMMARY

We left Osman last week face down in the dirt after Balgay shot an arrow deep into the middle of his back.   As he lies on the ground he could hear footsteps approaching.

This week we see that it was members of the Ahi tribe that found Osman and who take his wounded body back to Sheik Edebali’s new camp. Osman is heavily wounded.

Dundar Bey has married Aygul to Alisar Bey against Osman’s wishes.  Bahadir and Burcin have also joined them after Burcin shot two arrows into Bamsi Bey’s body.

AT ALISAR’S MANSION,   Gunduz,  Bamsi Bey and Abdurrahman Ghazi have arrived demanding entrance.  When the gates open an angry Alisar Bey and Dundar Bey await them.  Their guards are heavily armed and ready for battle.   The main goal for Gunduz and Bamsi Bey is to get Dundar Bey and his family to see that Alisar Bey is the real murderer of his son.

Alisar Bey believes he is the Sanjak Bey (the leader of all nomads) but this position was given to him by Geyhatu in Konya and not by traditional vote by the tribes throughout the land.   Alisar wants Dundar Bey to hold the position of head of the Kai nomad but the Kai tribe want Gunduz instead.
Anger between the two groups escalate.  They draw their swords in preparation to shed blood.  As they raise their swords Aygul appears on the ramparts and she yells at them to stop what they are doing.   She takes her red wedding veil and drops it into the group of fighting men which contains many of the people she grew up with and loved.

This act would be similar to a throwing in the towel at a boxing match to stop a fight.    In her new home Aygul now has her own power.   A Bey’s wife is in charge of her home and has the first say in what goes on under her roof.  Aygul no longer has to obey her father as a single woman and she is  also now the respected wife of the ruling Sanjak Bey.  She takes her new found power and drops  her veil between the two fighting groups in a determined act to stop the violence and avert blood shed.  Unfortunately her act places her directly into the path of Alisar Bey’s wrath.  He strikes her for interfering.

A decision is made for both sides to meet again the next day in the countryside of Sogut.

AT THE AHI CAMP ,  Sheik Edebali has the task of removing the arrow lodged deep within Osman’s back.

Boran Alp and Goktug track Osman down to the Ahi camp where they find him in a bad way.  The arrow has been removed and the wound cauterised. Osman lies on a bed burning with fever.

At Osman’s side Bala Hatun weeps with sadness to see her lover so vulnerable and cannot envisage a life without him.

AT BALGAY’S CAMP IN SOGUT,  Balgay has been placed on Geyhatu’s list of wanted men, dead or alive.    Balgay has enlisted other mongol groups to join him against Geyhatu.   Geyhatu is slowly making his way toward Sogut where Balgay with new mongol groups plan to attack and kill him.

AT THE KAI NOMAD,  word is brought to Gunduz about Osman’s fight with life and death.   Gunduz and Bamsi Bey cannot go to Osman as the upcoming confrontation with Alisar Bey has to be their priority.  They prepare to make their stand without Osman.   Gunduz believes that Alisar Bey is going to meet him in Sogut in an attempt to make peace.  The reality is that Alisar Bey and Dundar Bey are planning to betray Gunduz and ambush them on their way.

IN THE AHI CAMP,  Sheik Edebali and his Dervishes are in a  prayer like trance of worship.   Sheik Edebali attains enlightenment and has a vision of Osman.

Osman regains consciousness and hears the call to prayer.   As if in a dream Osman can see  God’s word hanging on the post near his bed.  Although in a weakened state he crawls on his knees towards the book where he asks God to bless him and his generation.  He falls into a deep sleep and whilst asleep has visions.

Osman’s dream sees himself lying in battle dress on the ground.  A bright spiritual light shaped as a crescent moon enters his body and a tree of life grows out of his chest.   Osman tells Sheik Edebali that in his dream he could see red flags with a crescent moon reaching out over the minarets of many lands.

Sheik Edebali tells Osman that he also saw Osman in a vision whilst in prayer.  He realises that Osman now has experienced the spiritual light of God.  Sheik Edebali can see the change in Osman and now gives him the one thing that he knows he desires most of all, the hand of his daughter Bala Hatun.  Osman’s prayers now have been answered and finally Bala Hatun will be his.   Sheik Edebali calls for Bala Hatun and tells he has now given his permission for her to be Osman’s wife.  He also tells her that she has a mountain of a man in Osman and she has a big job ahead of her in supporting him in as his wife.

BALGAY’S CAMP:   An advanced party of Nokers sent by Geyhatu are ambushed by Boke and Balgay’s Nokers.  All are murdered.  Balgay intercepts a letter that is destined for Alisar Bey.  The letter tells Alisar Bey that Geyhatu and his whole army are coming to Sogut .  Geyhatu has commanded Alisar Bey to murder all the Kais in Sogut and to take Osman and hang him in the middle of the Sogut bazaar.

Balgay smiles to himself with a sarcastic grin.  Under his breath he quietly encourages Geyhatu to come closer to him so he and his Nokers can have the pleasure of killing them all and gaining the Mongol throne in Konya.

AT THE AHI CAMP:  After a period of time Osman regains strength.  He calls his Alps together so they can update him on news from the Kais village.  He worries that Dundar Bey and Alisar Bey have poisoned the minds of the Kais.   He believes that the only way to handle the issue between Alisar Bey and the Kais is by blood and the possible death of Dundar Bey and his son Bahadir.   Osman cannot foresee reconciliation between the two groups being an option.

AT THE KAI NOMAD,  Gunduz and Bamsi Bey prepare for the so called reconciliation battle.  They believe that they just may be martyred very soon.

IN SOGUT,   Alisar Bey has staked out the trail that Gunduz and Bamsi Bey will take on their journey to Sogut with armed assassins.  Alisar’s guards are not aware that Osman’s Alps have been watching them.  They overcome the guards and all are killed.   Osman himself is now back in the saddle and kills many but leaves Alisar Bey’s commander as his last victim.

AT ALISAR’S MANSION,   Gunduz and Bamsi Bey were warned by Osman of the impending ambush before they left the Kai village.  They change their plan and ride straight into Alisar Bey’s mansion.   Dundar Bey and Alisar Bey get a shock to see they are still alive and now know that their attempt on killing Gunduz and Bamsi Bey has failed.

AT BALGAY’S CAMP,  Kongar returns to Balgay and his Nokers to act as a spy for Osman.  Balgay senses that something has changed in Kongar.  He walks up to him and tells him how he has raised him as his son and how he took him as a naked boy and turned him into a mongol warrior.

Kongar tells Balgay words that he wants to hear.  He promises Balgay that he will always be his father and that he will always be a mongol. Osman will never take him away from him.   This news brings a warm smile from our hardened mongol lord but as Balgay walks away giving a somewhat sarcastic smirk on his face, you get the feeling that they were merely words and he knows that Kongar has changed.

AT ALISAR’S MANSION,   Gunduz stands in front of Alisar Bey and Dundar Bey strong and powerful in his requests.  He wants Alisar Bey to stay out of the domestic issues belonging to the Kai people and he wants Dundar Bey and Bahadir to return to the Kais Village for trial by Kai Council.

Alisar Bey refuses to stay out of Kai domestic issues and still sites himself as the Sanjak Bey.

unduz tells him that today is the last time they will obey Alisar Bey.    He reminds Alisar Bey that he has to obey Geyhatu but Turks obey God.
Gunduz invites him to do his best in wiping out the Kai people.  He then takes Bamsi Bey and his Alps and turns his back on him and Dundar Bey.  They ride out of the mansion proudly.
