KURULUS OSMAN EPISODE 12 SUMMARY

The Kayi Village has been raided by Balgay and his Mongols. Selcan Hatun has tried to poison Balgay but was unsuccessful. Princess Sofia has been made to kiss the hand of Balgay who revolts her. Never-the-less she would do anything to sit on the throne of Constantinople.

Osman’s Alps are all captives and there are only a very few armed men left in the village, Bamsi Bey being one of them. Dundar Bey and Gunduz are in a situation where they cannot do anything. Bala Hatun should have run away when she had the chance but she stayed to defend the nomads along with Bamsi Bey.

Bamsi Bey stands in front of all the Mongols and calls them to make a martyr of him. His cries of “God is Great” ignites the tribe into battle.

Their cries to Allah are heard by Osman as he gallops into the village which quietens his rioting people. He calls Balgay to stop his torture. He tells him that he has come to bring him the strength of Genghis Khan. Of course Balgay wonders what he is talking about but Osman has something in his possession that will rock Balgay’s socks. A treasure that he has brought with him and which belonged to Genghis Khan.

Balgay’s curiosity is stirred and he moves Osman into the council tent to listen to what he has to say. Now Osman is playing a game with Balgay and he hopes it will pay off. He has the treasure from the ruling Beys but is it enough to bargain for the lives of his people. Osman will never bow his knee to a Mongol but he has to manipulate the situation to gain their freedom.

Osman presents his treasure which is a dagger belonging to Genghis Khan. This dagger is mainly used to protect Mongol law. Its presence really impresses Balgay.

Furthermore Osman tells Balgay that he also has the laws of Genghis Khan and Sheikh Kutugun. These laws were believed to be lost forever. Osman bargains with Balgay. He tells him he will give him the lost laws if he will take his Mongols and leave his land and release his people. Even though Balgay may not be trusted Osman gets him to swear on Genghis Khan that he will leave when Osman brings him back the lost laws.

Osman leaves the nomad and his imprisoned Alps to retrieve the laws.

Prince Salvador has been horribly tortured by Sofia and Master Yannis. Prince Salvador promises Sofia that he will bring them Osman.

Along a wooded path Osman meets up with Prince Salvador. Salvador tells Osman that he has been sent by Sofia to bring them back information on his whereabouts. Osman agrees with Salvador to tell them what they want to hear and to keep the game going and bring no suspicion upon himself.

In the tent that has been made into a jail, Osman’s Alps are all lashed to posts while their Mongol captives beat them up. Even Selcan Hatun is among them. Unfortunately for Konur Alp the Commander of the Mongols Konar, picks on him and beats him continuously. It is in this fight that Konur Alp sees a half crescent moon tattoo on the neck of the Mongol.

The sight of the crescent moon sends quivers of shock through Konur Alp as he has one exactly the same on his neck. It is an ancestral tattoo which was applied by their grandfather at birth. Konur Alp’s brother was kidnapped by the Mongols as a child and as much as he has searched he has never been able to find him. Konur Alp prays that the Mongol Konar is not his brother as he may have to end up killing him.

After leaving the Kai’s village Osman makes his way to Sheikh Edebali who is safe within Osman’s secret cave. He has come to receive the lost laws that he Edebali has protected all these years. In his possession is a large box which will help Osman to begin his war with the Mongols.

Sheikh Edebali tells Osman to give himself, his family and his people first to God and then wait for his prayers to be answered and his war to be won.

Meanwhile the Alps are still being treated cruelly by the Mongols and they cannot understand why Osman hasn’t come to rescue them.

Sofia and Master Yannis have drawn together all their troops in readiness for war. Sofia brings Balgay the news that they are ready to unite with him and over throw Osman and the Turks. Sofia is not happy with Balgay as he has not killed Osman as he promised her. If fact he has allowed him his freedom.

Balgay on the other hand is waiting for Osman to return with Genghis Khan’s lost laws. He will not and cannot go against his promise made to the great Genghis Khan to not hurt the Turks.

Balgay does tell Sofia that when he has the lost laws in his hands he will then settle the matter regarding Osman.

It is not long afterwards that Osman gallops into the Kayi Village with the box containing Genghis Khan laws.

Sofia greets him sarcastically outside his father’s tent. Osman tells her that it won’t be long before he will take care of her and her father for good. He enters the tent and hands over the box containing the laws to Balgay. Balgay drops to his knees when he reads the scrolls.

Osman tells Balgay that he has kept his promise and now asks Balgay to keep his. Balgay tries to subdue Osman with his dagger at his throat. Osman in turn places his dagger at Balgay’s throat demanding that he release his Alps and that he keeps his promise and leaves.

Osman once again swears to Balgay that he will never bow down to him nor obey him. He tells him he obeys God first and he is the son Ertugrul Gazi, “So” he says, “Take your men and leave our nomads along with your servants.”

Balgay gives the order to release the Alps but he also gives an order to Dundar Bey to have all the other Beys throughout the land come and kiss his feet.

Dundar Bey does not like the bravery and power that Osman usurps, nor does he like the fact that his son Batur Bey prefers to follow Osman. A huge argument is heard between the two Turks. Dundar Bey is told by Osman that if he cannot rule the tribes and protect them from Mongols then he has to give up the leadership. When Dundar Bey asks Osman, “Then who will rule the nomads?” Osman tells him with a raised voice, “Me”. “I am Osman Gazi son Ertugrul Gazi.”

Osman is invited by Dundar Bey to a meeting that evening with the Beys.

Meanwhile at Kuluchaiser Castle, Sofia tells Master Yannis and Prince Salvador that as soon as the Mongols have moved away from the Kayi Village they will complete the task of killing Osman with the help of Prince Salvador.

At the Kayi Village the Mongols pack up and leave to make their base at Hisar Castle. They celebrate with Balgay feeling the power and strength of Genghis Khan running through his veins. ThIs new strength Balgay believes will take him all the way to the throne of Constantinople and to show his new found power he takes the dagger of Genghis Khan, places it in hot coals and then cauterises his tongue.

Back at the Kayi Village, Bala Hatun seeks out Osman. She asks him how he came to find Genghis Khan’s lost laws. He tells her that it is his secret and she may as well know now that if she is his wife that he will have secrets from her. Bala Hatun does not like to hear these words from Osman. She wants to share everything with him. For the first time she asks to be excused from his presence a little hurt by his response.

The Alps are released and finally join up with Osman in his tent. Samsa Bey distances himself from Osman. He wants to know how he was able to release them and where the laws had been hidden. Osman tells him that he cannot tell them and that it must remain a secret.

Samsa Bey tells Osman that he and the Alps would give their lives for Osman and there should not be secrets between them. Samsa Bey is hurt and offended by Osman’s lack of trust in his Alps. He leaves Osman and returns to his own village.

That evening a meeting of the council members is held at the Kayi Village. The Council along with Dundar Bey is not happy with how Osman conducted himself in the Mongol attack. Dundar Bey believes that Osman is chasing his own dreams. Although Osman tells them that they will defeat the Mongols if they work together. As much as he tries Osman cannot get them to see reason that Sofia and Balgay are joining forces and they will be made to submit.

The council votes to expel Osman from the Kayi Village. Batur Bey decides that he will go with Osman happily rather than stay in the Kayi Village and obey the Mongols who now have all of Sogut in their hands.

Osman and Batur Bey leave the Council tent leaving Bamsi Bey and Abdurrahman Gazi behind when they agree with his exile.

Osman now finds himself without his senior Alps. Konur Alp and Boran will be exiled along with Osman. He will be without Samsa Bey who has returned to his nomad and if it wasn’t for the loyalty of Batur Bey he would be by himself.

Konur Alp prays to God that after looking for his brother for so long and finally finding him a warrior of the Mongols, it is heartbreaking for him. He asks God to allow him to be the one to kill him if he cannot get him to change his ways and become his brother all over again.

Osman collects his prayer mat and takes a last look around his father’s tent. He knows he is proud but he has done everything to save his tribe from the Mongols. To have them now expel him from their company hurts him deeply. All the same he cannot live under Dundar Bey’s rule nor bow down to the Mongols.

Dundar Bey on the other hand is conceited and sees Osman’s exile as a victory for the tribe. His own son Batur Bey says goodbye to his family. He has no respect for his father and leaves to ride with Osman to a new found freedom and bravery.

Samsa Bey sits in his nomad with his council of Bey’s. Osman has ridden all the way from the Kais Village with his Alps to meet with him even though he knows that Samsa Bey has broken friendship with him.

Osman tries to get Samsa Bey to understand that the secret of the Genghis Khan laws has to remain with him and he cannot divulge it to anyone. Samsa Bey tells him that although he is brave he is immature.

A fight breaks out between the two. It is one-on-one situation with blows raining heavily upon each other. The fight ends with Osman holding his dagger at Samsa Bey’s throat.

Osman tells him that he should have trusted him and not turned his back on him. He also tells him that he cannot build a Turkish government with his closest warriors rioting against him.
