Best Short Turkish Series to Binge in a Weekend

Eight complete Turkish stories with 7 to 16 episodes, for viewers who want a dizi without a months-long commitment

Best Short Turkish Series to Binge in a Weekend

The biggest objection to Turkish series is time. A traditional broadcast dizi can run for 70 episodes of two hours each, which is more than 140 hours. But a growing number of Turkish series are short: summer series on broadcast channels, and streaming originals with 7 to 16 episodes. These tell a complete story and can be finished in a weekend or two.

The eight series below are all complete, all short by Turkish standards, and varied in genre. Episode counts are from the original release. Netflix titles are generally under an hour per episode, while broadcast titles run closer to two hours, so we note which is which. Availability on streaming services differs by country, so check your own region.

The quickest watches (7 to 9 episodes)

1. Who Were We Running From? (Biz Kimden Kaçıyorduk Anne?)

A mother and daughter are on the run, and the story slowly reveals what they are fleeing. With seven episodes, it is the shortest series here, and the emotional bond between the leads drives it. Melisa Sözen, Eylül Tumbar and Musa Uzunlar star.

Best for: an emotional, plot-driven weekend.

2. Lovers Anonymous (Adsız Aşıklar)

Cem runs a clinic for the heartbroken, though he is cynical about love himself, until Hazal, a believer in love, arrives. It has been described as a dark comedy, so it is quirkier than a standard romance. Halit Ergenç and Funda Eryiğit lead.

Best for: viewers who find standard romances too predictable.

3. Letters From the Past (Geleceğe Mektuplar)

In 2003, students write letters to their future selves, to be opened twenty years later. In 2023, the letters are found, and they upend lives and reveal a family secret. Onur Tuna is in the cast.

Best for: nostalgic mystery with a small revelation in each episode.

4. The Museum of Innocence (Masumiyet Müzesi)

Based on Orhan Pamuk's novel, set in Istanbul between 1975 and 1984. A man from a wealthy family falls obsessively in love with a distant relative. Selahattin Paşalı and Eylül Kandemir star.

Best for: slow, literary storytelling.

Slightly longer (10 to 16 episodes)

5. Breathless (Nefes Nefese)

Rüya travels to the Syrian border region to find her mother, and a dangerous journey ties her to Yusuf. It aired in 2018 with 10 episodes of about two hours each, so expect about 20 hours of viewing, which is a long weekend rather than a short one. Şükrü Özyıldız and Melisa Şenolsun star.

Best for: a first dizi that is short but still has the full broadcast feel.

6. Gülcemal

Two people begin in open hostility, and the story turns into a passionate romance that seems impossible. It aired on NOW in 2023 for one season of 13 episodes and was not renewed. Melis Sezen and Murat Ünalmış star.

Best for: viewers who like a hostile start to a love story.

7. For My Daughters (Kızlarım İçin)

A poor father of five daughters takes the blame when one of them accidentally kills her mother. It aired on Kanal D from late 2017 to early 2018 with 13 episodes. Fikret Kuşkan, Tuvana Türkay and Elifcan Ongurlar lead.

Best for: an emotional family story in a compact form.

8. Midnight at the Pera Palace

A modern journalist is transported to 1919 Istanbul and drawn into a plot against Mustafa Kemal. It has two seasons of eight episodes each. Hazal Kaya, Tansu Biçer and Selahattin Paşalı lead.

Best for: history and mystery with a romantic thread.

How to plan a weekend binge

  • Choose streaming originals for a true weekend. The Netflix titles have shorter episodes, so you can realistically finish them in a couple of days.
  • Treat broadcast titles as a long weekend. At about two hours an episode, ten episodes is still around 20 hours.
  • Match the mood. Pick a comedy if you want to relax and a mystery if you want to stay engaged.
  • Check availability first. Titles move between services and countries.
